Scenario #1: Seat up This means I know that the man who used the toilet before me was courteous enough to lift the seat before urinating. Scenario #2: Seat down This means I have no idea if the man who used the toilet before me politely returned the seat to its down position, or if he left the seat down, having never lifted it at all. Men need to urinate standing up and defecate sitting down.
